PASS | ED
4-Channel-Audio-Video-Installation, 2009/2010

Started from sleep in the middle of the night. Awoke from a dream. Darkness, your own bed. On the threshold between waking and sleeping. Then you see a light, on the wall, calm and stationary at first, then there’s a flickering, subtly transforming the shape. Where have I been right now? What did I dream? Anna Zaradny, musician and sound-artist from Warsaw, takes up her own experience of abruptly waking up at night and observing a light phenomenon to stage a lucid environment, letting us enter an amazingly pleasant state of trance. Four projections, in different sizes, on each of the four walls in a black room give the visual illusion of a timeless standstill. The light reflexes seem to be flowing, fragile animations, yet are real phenomena. For her project, the artist had herself be awakened in the middle of the night regularly. She developed special sound compositions for the single video tracks, emphasising the minimal-abstract undertone. This 4-channel-video-audio-installation “PASS | ED” leads to a strong perception of space that focuses on the time passing. Just as mysteriously and ethereally as the visual light reflexes change in slowly dynamic, subtle shifts the four sound tracks vary in their equally subtle nuances of their interferences. You should take your time to get involved in, be drawn into this perception of constantly passing time without beginning or end: PASS | ED. When, in the course of time, you start dreaming, a circle is closed.
