The first Zurich Complaints Choir!

The 1st Complaints Choir of Zurich was initiated by the curators of Shedhalle and produced in cooperation with the Fabriktheater Rote Fabrik as part of the exhibition "Im/Possible Community". The choir was formed by several enthusiastic people from Zurich and around. The complaints sung by the choir were collected by all the participants and the song was written by Pastor Leumund aka Jan Theiler. The composition and conduction was done by Stefanie Ressin, the music played by pianist Niels van der Waerden and the Alphorn player Regina Steiner.  The choir performed on January 30, 2010 on several places in Zurich city and finally for the finissage of the exhibition at the Fabriktheater venue.

Please check the press releases (only in German) by TV, radio and print: Pressespiegel.

The idea:

The concept of the Complaints Choirs is by Finnish artist Tellervo Kalleinen and Oliver Kochta-Kalleinen and based on the expression “Valituskuoro”, meaning a situation where a lot of people are complaining simultaneously. The choirs serve as a means to voice apparently subjective problems within a temporary community, focusing on multiplicity and rendering the unheard-of discernable. An experience impressively proving that every matter or concern is important and that most of the issues do concern all of us. Meanhwile there have been nearly aroudn 100 complaints choirs all around the globe. The concept is open and continuously documented on Youtube. see more: www.complaintschoir.org
